A complex process. A simple decision.

Machining long aluminium profiles cost-effectively, reducing set-up times whilst increasing flexibility in production: Dowaldwerke’s requirements for a new manufacturing solution were clearly defined. The decision was just as clear – once again in favour of the CHIRON Group.

Dowaldwerke GmbH, based in Dippoldiswalde, Saxony, develops and manufactures aluminium profiles and assemblies for various applications in railway technology. These include, amongst other things, boarding aids, interior door systems and footplates for rail vehicles. Many of the profiles are several metres long and pose significant challenges in terms of machining and handling.

Until now, the production of long hollow sections has involved considerable effort. Additional set-ups, repositioning and long non-productive times tied up valuable capacity. A solution was therefore sought that would machine long section variants in a single set-up wherever possible and make the entire process significantly more efficient. The choice fell on a MILL 3000 with an X-axis travel of 3,000 mm and a custom-designed swivel bridge as the central element of the production concept.
