Putting customer needs first, fostering a sense of responsibility and growing as a team – the CHIRON Group Italy has been developing successfully in line with these principles for many years. From its base in Rodano Millepini, near Milan, the team supports companies throughout Italy, combining the technological expertise of the CHIRON Group with a strong focus on customer relations and high service standards.
For four decades, what is now the CHIRON Group Italy has been bringing the technologies and machining centers of the CHIRON Group to the Italian market. The company has been part of the CHIRON Group since 2007 and serves customers in one of Europe’s most important industrial and manufacturing regions.
Italy has a strong industrial heritage and is home to numerous innovative companies. Consequently, the demand for precise, reliable and future-proof manufacturing solutions is high. In this interview, Managing Director Alessandro Cecchini talks about the development of the subsidiary, key achievements and the unique culture within his team.
The past few years have been marked by a wide range of challenges – from economic crises and the COVID-19 pandemic to geopolitical uncertainties in Europe. Throughout this time, our primary aim has always been to understand our customers’ needs even better and to consistently place them at the heart of everything we do.
At the same time, we have consistently developed our company further – from a ‘one-man show’ to a structured organisation with clearly defined responsibilities. Today, decisions can be made on a sound basis, independently and quickly.
This works because we encourage initiative and proactive thinking. We go into meetings with clients armed with concrete, well-developed solutions – not just a description of the challenges. The market has changed, and we have changed with it. This helps us to act in a more targeted manner and offer our clients an even better service.
A key milestone in 2012 was the integration of the STAMA brand into the CHIRON Group. This enabled us to expand our portfolio and offer our customers additional solutions for an even wider range of applications.
The launch of the new 16 Series followed in 2018. The Italian market has traditionally been very quick to embrace innovation, and we were among the first companies to successfully establish this platform. The increasing demands for productivity, precision and process reliability have further encouraged this development.
I am particularly proud of the way our customer relationships have developed. This is also reflected in the steadily rising number of service contracts. For us, every single contract is a sign of confidence in the quality of our products and services.
It’s quite clear: the atmosphere. We have a strong team and get on really well together. Everyone takes responsibility for their own tasks and we support one another.
At the same time, we offer our staff the opportunity to develop both professionally and personally. We see ourselves as an employer that creates a supportive working environment and gives everyone in the team the freedom they need to take responsibility and show initiative.

Alessandro Cecchini
Alessandro Cecchini has been Managing Director of CHIRON Italia S.p.A. since 2013. An aerospace engineer from the Politecnico di Milano, he has more than 25 years’ experience in manufacturing and mechanical engineering. Prior to his appointment as Managing Director, he was responsible for the sales of the CHIRON Group in Italy and had previously held senior positions at international industrial companies.

At more than 60 per cent, the automotive industry remains the most important market of the CHIRON Group in Italy. At the same time, sectors such as jewellery and medical technology are experiencing very dynamic growth.

Machining centers and manufacturing solutions only realise their full potential when people and technology work together seamlessly. This is precisely where the CHIRON Group Academy comes in: with practical training courses and a modern learning environment, the training team in Tuttlingen provides specialist staff with targeted preparation for their day-to-day work with the manufacturing solutions – from operation and maintenance through to programming, digital systems and automation. At the same time, the Academy also trains service technicians from the CHIRON Group Service for their assignments around the world.
Whether a company is commissioning its first or its next machining center from the CHIRON Group, the CHIRON Group Academy provides the knowledge required for proficient operation, carrying out maintenance and servicing work, creating production programmes, and using the SmartLine digital systems safely.
The training programme comprises structured training formats for different areas of responsibility and levels of knowledge – ranging from the basics of service, maintenance and operation to specific topics such as programming training for swivel cycles or measuring probes. Despite the clearly defined content and objectives, no two training courses are exactly the same. »Depending on the machine solution, application and prior knowledge, we set different priorities. Sometimes we take it a notch down a gear; sometimes we have to delve really deeply into the subject matter to ensure participants take away something new,« explains Samuel Baur, Head of the CHIRON Group Academy.
The Academy in Tuttlingen offers ideal conditions for all training courses: ten training machines from the current product range, five robots, two programming rooms with simulation workstations, and two training areas for the theoretical part are available. Training on machining centers from the major series takes place in a dedicated area of the application center. In addition, the team can provide training on machining solutions in the forum as required. A current example is the combination of the FZ 19 S five-axis machining center with the new, scalable Variocell SYSTEM gantry automation featuring the Gantry Bot.
The benefit for participants is that they train in an industrial setting which is nevertheless designed to facilitate focused learning, experimentation and in-depth study – without the time pressures and production demands of ongoing manufacturing. At the same time, the machining centers remain available for use in the customer’s own production facilities.
In 2025, the training team delivered more than 190 training courses from the training programme, with a total of 684 participants. In addition, the Academy also develops bespoke workshops, which can take place either in Tuttlingen or at the client’s premises. Alongside Academy Director Samuel Baur, Petra Kaufmann is the main point of contact – from the initial enquiry through all organisational matters to the coordination of international training courses, including simultaneous interpretation into the local language where required.
The trainers at the CHIRON Group Academy have extensive practical experience. Programming trainers come from the applications side, whilst technical trainers often come from assembly, commissioning or the CHIRON Group Service department. Many of them have been familiar with the machining centers and manufacturing solutions through daily use for years – and pass on this knowledge directly.
Just how closely development, assembly and training are interlinked was demonstrated, for example, in the run-up to the market launch of the Micro5 XL. A trainer oversaw the construction of the current training facility right on the assembly line – from the very first screw to the finished micro-machine. This meant that training materials, practical knowledge and training expertise were already in place before series production began.
The Academy is also a key component of the internal training programme at the CHIRON Group Service. New service technicians undergo a structured induction and training programme lasting several months, comprising training modules, practical phases in the assembly department and assignments alongside experienced colleagues. Among other things, Samuel Baur and his team teach skills relating to geometry, machine settings, hydraulics, pneumatics, maintenance, repairs and fault analysis – tailored to the specific areas of responsibility they will encounter in their future service roles.
What do participants particularly appreciate about the CHIRON Group Academy’s training courses? Here is a small selection – representative of the many comments we receive from our day-to-day international training activities.
The training center in Tuttlingen covers the majority of global training requirements. For the US and Chinese markets, the local sites of the CHIRON Group offer their own training programmes – in Charlotte, North Carolina, and in Taicang.
As well as providing standard training, the Academy also offers support for complex automation solutions or customised, extended production systems – working alongside specialists from the development, automation or applications departments where required.
